FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb opened the agency’s hotly anticipated public meeting on lab-grown animal products yesterday. The all-day meeting included perspectives from Memphis Meats, JUST (formerly Hampton Creek) and Finless Foods, three companies working on lab-grown meat and seafood products, as well as meat scientists, academics and presentations from several FDA officials (agenda). Livestock organizations utilized the public comment period to express a preference that USDA regulate these products instead of FDA.
