Feeder cattle steady to $5 higher

Demand was stronger at auction markets last week as AMS reporters called feeder steer and heifers steady to $5 higher.

Cash fed cattle prices traded in a wide range from $114 to $122 per cwt on Friday in Nebraska. The bulk of cattle fell into the $117 to $118 per cwt range, mostly steady with last week. Dressed prices were $186 to $187 per cwt.

Choice beef cutout prices closed Friday at $212.61 per cwt., $1.70 lower than last Friday. Select beef cutout was $199.91 per cwt., $5.69 lower than last week. The Choice/Select spread was $8.71. Beef cutout values have declined about $13 per cwt. over the past month.
