More cows and heavy-weight feeders come to town

The big story is more cattle, again. Heavy weight feeder cattle are coming off graze-out wheat pastures, and slaughter cows are being pushed to town because of dry ground.

There was another good run of heavy weight feeder cattle at auction barns as they come off of graze-out wheat pastures this spring. Prices were mostly steady to $2 lower on heavy weights because of those big numbers, and steady to a few dollars higher on lighter weights with smaller numbers.

We also saw a larger run of slaughter cows this week continue, particularly in the West and Midwest where dry conditions are pushing more cows to town. Prices really evened out between the regions with the Eastern regions steady to firm and the Midwest/West mostly $1-3 lower with the bigger runs.
