Animal Handling & Sustainable Practices

Livestock auction markets have an excellent animal welfare record and use the latest industry-approved handling practices at their facilities. To assist our members in their animal handling and sustainability practices, the Livestock Marketing Association (LMA) has made a wide variety of livestock handling educational and training materials available to the livestock marketing industry for nearly three decades.

LMA joined the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (USRSB) in June of 2015, following a recommendation by the LMA Membership Services Committee and LMA Board of Directors approval. The driving purpose behind LMA’s participation was to ensure that the livestock auction markets were represented in any conversations that could impact future supply chain expectations.

In 2021, LMA was recognized by USRSB for appropriately incorporating the auction market segment of the U.S. Beef Industry Sustainability Framework into their program. This program is part of several educational modules, seeking to advance, support and communicate continuous improvement of sustainability across the U.S. beef value-chain.
